Conscious Use of Cesarean Delivery

Advocating for medically indicated Cesarean sections to address global overuse.

Promoting Responsible Use of Cesarean Sections

NESA advocates for the responsible use of Cesarean delivery only when medically indicated, addressing the global overuse of this major surgery that now exceeds 50% in some countries despite WHO recommendations of 10-15%. The dangers of overuse include increased risk of placenta accreta, higher complication rates in repeat pregnancies, greater likelihood of hemorrhage, unnecessary hysterectomies, and evolutionary concerns about shifting the natural physiological balance of human reproduction. Through infographics, educational materials, recommendations for documented second opinions before elective Cesareans, workshops training obstetricians in safe alternatives, and publications highlighting long-term risks, NESA’s initiative has been endorsed by numerous professional associations and continues to influence national maternal health policies worldwide.
